Buy Materials

Do you need material for your Formlabs Form 4 3D printer? Whether you are looking for tough, flexible, color, or engineering-grade materials, we have an array of offerings to suit your needs.

The Complete Workflow

STEP 1

Print

Upload your model to PreForm and let the software automatically orient and generate supports. Then, start printing.

STEP 2

Wash

Load your part into the Form Wash and walk away. Automated part cleaning ensures controlled solvent exposure — the most critical step in the post-processing process.

STEP 3

Cure

Post cure to solidify the material properties of your part. Your part is now ready for use.

See Use Cases

"Working with Form 4 is really a game-changer. The speed of the printer changed our workflow. We can deliver more parts, [since] the throughput is higher. We are more flexible if we have short-time requests."

"On one lighting project, we did three iterations in a single day — designed and printed three different parts before we had a meeting in the afternoon. We haven't had a single failure on the Form 4."

"You're getting such a high value at really reasonable prices. [Formlabs has] got both the support you need and the scale for consistent delivery of product when you need it."

"In most of our cases, we'll provide 1-3 metal implants and 6-8 Formlabs components. So the Formlabs instruments are really central to the completion of the case and most of what we're doing."

Form 4 FAQs

The Formlabs Form 4 has a build volume of 7.9 × 4.9 × 8.3 inches, allowing you to print parts up to that size depending on orientation and support requirements. For larger parts, the Formlabs Form 4L offers a build volume 4.6x larger than the Form 4.

Form 4 is part of Formlabs’ Open Platform. Open Material Mode is available for a single lifetime fee per printer. Open Material Mode allows you to print with any type of third-party 405 nm photopolymer resin on Formlabs SLA printers.

Formlabs has over 40 resins ranging from tough and durable, high temp, and flame retardant, rigid and flexible, to silicone and ceramic.

Material Examples:

  • Tough 2000: Similar to ABS
  • Silicone 40A: 100% Silicone Material
  • Color Kit: Dye It to Any HEX Color
  • Grey: Most Accurate When Printed and Cured
  • Alumina 4N: 99.99% Pure Ceramic

Formlabs has over 40 resins ranging from tough and durable, high temp, and flame retardant, rigid and flexible, to silicone and ceramic. Connect with our team of application experts to discuss your material options and choose the right one.

It depends on the material, but resin prints can be surprisingly strong. One key advantage is that they’re isotropic, so strength is consistent in every direction.

It depends on the application, but Rigid 10K Resin is the strongest for stiffness and load-bearing parts, while Tough 2000 Resin offers excellent strength and durability for real-world functional use.

To dispose of unused or expired resin, consider using the WRAP Pro to cure it into a solid form that can be safely discarded. Hazardous waste services can be cumbersome and expensive, and the WRAP allows you to deal with this hassle seamlessly.

The Form Wash and Form Cure are part of the Form 4 workflow. The Form Wash is the second step in the workflow. It automatically cleans printed parts thoroughly with IPA or alternative solvents. After the parts are clean, they are placed in the Form Cure to be post-cured and improve strength and performance.

Yes. Formlabs SLA printers have an orange cover that blocks UV light.

If the integrated camera is enabled, it automatically saves a photo of each print when it completes. The camera also allows users to take video timelapses of the printing process and snapshots of the build platform from Dashboard.

PreForm is the Formlabs software included with your printer purchase. Offered for free, with no licenses, annual fees, or installation limits. PreForm’s automatic algorithms set up your print’s layout, orientation, and supports.

Features Include:

  • Supports
  • Add Textures
  • Remote printing
  • Automatic support generation
  • Optimal orientation recommendations
  • Real-time print estimates
  • Print settings tuned and validated for Formlabs’ entire materials library
  • Automatic detection for common issues (gaps, ensuring your models are print-ready)
  • Customize all settings

You can import native models from a range of CAD applications including STEP, SolidWorks, and many more without any additional processing steps.

Formlabs printers can operate entirely offline to meet security requirements by using direct USB connections or local area networks (LAN) without internet access. Users can transfer jobs via PreForm, while firmware updates and Open Material Mode activation still require temporary connectivity.
