What is the difference between Form 4 and Form 4B?

The Form 4B is Formlabs’ smallest-format medical MSLA printer. It has the exact same build size as the Form 4. Form 4B enables you to print with 40+ Formlabs materials, including more than a dozen biocompatible materials, and third-party materials using Open Material Mode.

Is there an Open Material Mode on Form 4B?

Yes, Form 4B is part of Formlabs’ Open Platform. Open Material Mode is available for a one-time lifetime fee per printer. Open Material Mode allows you to print with any type of third-party 405 nm photopolymer resin.

What types of materials can I print on Form 4B?

What is the Form 4B build size? What is the largest part I can print?

The Form 4B build size is 7.9 x 4.9 x 8.3 inches. You can print parts up to the full build size. Opt for the Form 4BL to print 4.6x larger biocompatible and sterilizable parts.

What is the purpose of the camera on Form 4B?

When the integrated camera is enabled, it automatically saves a photo of each completed print. The camera also allows users to take video timelapses of the printing process and snapshots of the build platform from Dashboard.

What equipment is used for post-processing?

The Form Wash and Form Cure are part of the Form 4B workflow. The Form Wash is the second step in the workflow. It automatically cleans printed parts thoroughly with IPA or alternative solvents. After the parts are clean, they are placed in the Form Cure to be post-cured and improve strength and performance.

How do I choose the right material for my application?

Is resin 3D printing strong?

It depends on the material, but resin prints can be surprisingly strong. One key advantage is that they’re isotropic, so strength is consistent in every direction.

Are Formlabs resins food-safe or biocompatible?

Formlabs resins are not approved for use with food or drink. They can, however, be used as part of the design and manufacturing processes to create food-safe products. Check each material’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and technical information to understand the certification.

How can I dispose of unused and expired resin?

To dispose of unused or expired resin, consider using the WRAP Pro to cure it into a solid form that can be safely discarded. Hazardous waste services can be cumbersome and expensive, and the WRAP allows you to deal with this hassle seamlessly.

What is PreForm?
